It was our friend Nancy who’d pointed the way
We stopped along the path to snap a few photos
Of Mother Nature’s beautiful bayside display
We walked by an old rusty car made by “De Soto”
Growing daffodils, where its hood used to be
Dorothy ran by, chased by her dog “Toto”
The pathway was full of surprises you see
We came upon two giant trees 100’ tall
Standing sentry, to a magical place
Doug firs to be sure, ah but that’s not all;
Sentry said, “You may pass”
When out jumped a girl…
With a big smile on her face!
She walked up, and said “Hello I’m Alice”
Queen of this beautiful forest my friends
Follow me, we shall have tea at my palace
Not far from here, where the pathway ends”
Along the way we passed by a large elk herd
Grazing new grass n’ sipping from Alder Creek
Alice whispered “Be quiet elk must not be angered”
Just as an Osprey flew by, with a fish in its beak
As we arrived at the palace Alice yelled “Wonderland
Be the name of my castle guarding Nehalem Bay
She is built upon bedrock, just below the white sand
Let’s have biscuits n’ tea, and still have time to play”
Though hours went by, it seemed only minutes,
Alice had slowed down time,
Why?
Because she knew how!
All of a sudden Alice blinked twice;
We were back home!
Don’t ask me how,
That wouldn’t be nice

Yes...the elk herd was real...as was the pathway
