RED PILL

You were asked;
“Will it be red or blue?”

You answered;

“I'll take the red pill”

So why do you complain?

Isn't it enough to be awake?

Why do you fret n' spit on truth?

You made a choice for your own sake!

Why run around demanding proof?

Trust heart and soul to guide you

Through the troubled times ahead

It was the longer straw you drew

No need to walk on feet of lead

Rejoice!

You've made it to “The great transition”

Relax!

You need not “Jockey for position”

~LITTLE SNOWFLAKE~

A star of snow fell one cold night
Firstborn of that Christmas Season
Perfect, unique, all swathed in white
To be a part of winter was his reason

The tiny star did not question fate
Although amidst a billion others
He did his very best to acclimate
Alongside his sisters n’ brothers

Harsh storms came n’ went
The little snowflake was in awe
At long last the storms were spent
All welcomed back spring thaw

The melting star cried out with glee
“Hooray! I’ll be returning to the sea”

6 Shocking Revelations About Wall Street's "Secret Government"
December 3, 2011
Print Version
Source: Alternet
We now have concrete evidence that Wall Street and Washington are running a secret government far removed from the democratic process. Through a freedom of information request by Bloomberg News, the public now has access to over 29,000 pages of Fed documents and 21,000 additional Fed transactions that were deliberately hidden, and for good reason. (See here and here.)
These documents show how top government officials willfully concealed from Congress and the public the true extent of the 2008-'09 bailouts that enriched the few and enhanced the interests of giant Wall Streets firms. Here’s what we now know:
  • The secret Wall Street bailouts totaled $7.77 trillion, 10 times more than the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) passed by Congress in 2008.
  • Knowledge of the secret bailout funds was not shared with Congress even while it was drafting and debating legislation to break up the big banks.
  • The secret funding, provided at below-market rates, gave Wall Street banks an additional $13 billion in profits. (That’s enough money to hire more than 325,000 entry level teachers.)
  • The secret loans financed bank mergers so that the largest banks could grow even larger. The money also allowed banks to step up their lobbying efforts.
  • While Henry Paulson (Bush’s Secretary of the Treasury) was informing Congress and the public that only minor reforms were needed to protect Fannie and Freddie from collapse, he met secretly with leading Wall Street hedge fund managers -- among them his former colleagues at Goldman Sachs -- to alert them that he was about to nationalize the giant mortgage companies – a move that would eradicate nearly all the stock value of the companies. This information was enormously valuable because it allowed these hedge funds to short Fannie and Freddie and thereby make a fortune.
  • While Timothy Geithner was head of the NY Federal Reserve, he argued against legislative efforts by Senator Ted Kaufman, D-Delaware, to limit the size of banks because the issue was “too complex for Congress and that people who know the markets should handle these decisions,” Kaufman recalls. Meanwhile, Geithner was fully aware of the enormous secret loans while Senator Kaufman was kept in the dark. Barney Frank, who was authoring key bank reform legislation was also not informed of the secret loans. No one in Congress was told.
So what does this all mean?
1. The big banks and hedge funds were in much more trouble than we were led to believe.
As many of us suspected, all the big banks were on their knees begging for help – secretly – while telling their investors, the public and Congress that all was well. They had gambled and lost. Under the rules of ideal capitalism, they should have suffered some “creative destruction,” and seen their shareholder value eliminated through bankruptcy, and their managers replaced. The entire banking system should have been reorganized from top to bottom as well. Instead, these colossal failures were secretly rewarded.
2. Wall Street’s secret government made sure the largest banks would grow even larger, aided by the secret funding.
While Congress was debating legislation to break up the large banks and reinstitute Glass Steagall (to separate risky investment banking from insured commercial banking,) the secret government was using public funds to grow even larger through mergers and acquisitions. Because Congress and the public were unaware of the secret funding and ill-health of all the banks, the legislation was easily defeated. As the chart below makes painfully clear, too-big-to-fail banks grew even bigger.

3. The bigger Wall Street becomes, the more government it can buy.
This part isn’t secret. As the top six banks grew larger, they spent more funds lobbying to make sure that they wouldn’t suffer any unprofitable impacts from banking reform legislation. So after the biggest banks received hundreds of billions in secret loans, they upped their lobbying funds to maintain their size and power. Read ‘em and weep:

4. Wall Street’s secret government protects its own.
At first, it’s not easy to understand how Treasury Secretary Paulson, the former head of Goldman Sachs, could risk attending a secret meeting with giant hedge fund managers, many of whom used to work at Goldman Sachs. How could the nation’s highest ranking financial official dare to tip off these hedge fund elites about the imminent government takeover of Fannie and Freddie before Congress and the public were informed? Well, one answer is that Paulson felt obliged to warn his old comrades of the impeding nationalization. Maybe, he wanted to get them out of harm’s way just in case they were heavily involved in those markets. Or maybe he also wanted to give them a very valuable tip to profit by. But the deeper explanation, I believe, is that Wall Street’s key government officials – Paulson, Summers, Geithner, Orszag (the former Obama OMB chief who now makes millions working for CitiGroup), etc. truly believe the following:
  • Wall Street banks are the best in the world and are the cutting-edge of the American economy. They are our future.
  • Wall Street bankers and hedge fund managers are enormously smarter and sharper than the rest of us. They deserve our admiration.
  • Helping Wall Street to grow and prosper is precisely the same thing as helping all Americans and the entire economy. They deserve our support.
  • Secret meetings to provide insider information are normal on Wall Street. There’s nothing wrong with warning your friends about upcoming policy decisions that might impact their profits.
  • There’s also absolutely nothing wrong with providing trillions of dollars of secret loans to the best and the brightest and not telling Congress about it.
It’s all a closed loop of self-justification and self-deception: Wall Street is brilliant. What Wall Street does is for the good of the country. Helping Wall Street profit is good for the country. Hiding the truth from democratically elected leaders is also for the good of the country because Wall Street is brilliant and knows better.
And all this is deeply believed by Wall Street and its secret government, even though Wall Street, and Wall Street alone, took down the economy and killed 8 million jobs in a matter of months. Simply brilliant!
5. Wall Street is a clear and present danger to democracy.
Usually, I am not an alarmist. In fact, I often argue against facile conspiracy theories. I want to believe that our democracy still has promise. But, the Wall Street-induced crash and the government’s response to it has me very worried. The Bloomberg News revelations suggest that Wall Street’s secret government has enormous disdain for what remains of our democracy. The financial elites obviously believe that Congress cannot be trusted to do the right thing even when it is bought and paid for by the very banks it supposedly regulates. As for the rest of us? We’re just a financially illiterate mass to be manipulated through the mass media. Our minds too can be bought and sold through careful marketing.
This financial arrogance and corruption is enormously corrosive to our democratic values. Already, many Americans, and for good reason, no longer trust their government. Already, many Americans, and for good reason, no longer vote. Already, many Americans, and for good reason, believe that democracy as we know it is a sham. Wall Street couldn’t have written a better script to maintain its domination.
6. Occupy Wall Street is fundamentally correct, but we need more.
The occupiers dramatically attacked Wall Street elites and captured the country’s imagination with their 1 percent, 99 percent framework. And the idea is sticking and spreading. But that’s only the start. To reclaim our country from Wall Street’s secret government we will need to develop an enormous movement among the 99 percent. Although we hope it just happens spontaneously through Twitter and Facebook, we all know it will require hardcore organizing involving millions of us.
At the moment, no one knows what form it will take. But we do know this: great concentrations of power and wealth do not give up their power and wealth without an enormous fight. Wall Street’s secret government is more than ready to protect itself, even if it means subverting democracy. Our occupiers have shown great courage in helping us reclaim our democratic rights. Let’s hope it spreads…and soon.

Top 5 Regrets of The Dying

Wiki image

Bonnie Ware
Inspiration and Chai

For many years I worked in palliative care. My patients were those who had gone home to die. Some incredibly special times were shared. I was with them for the last three to twelve weeks of their lives.

People grow a lot when they are faced with their own mortality. I learnt never to underestimate someone's capacity for growth. Some changes were phenomenal. Each experienced a variety of emotions, as expected, denial, fear, anger, remorse, more denial and eventually acceptance. Every single patient found their peace before they departed though, every one of them.

When questioned about any regrets they had or anything they would do differently, common themes surfaced again and again. Here are the most common five:

1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

This was the most common regret of all. When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made.

It is very important to try and honour at least some of your dreams along the way. From the moment that you lose your health, it is too late. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it.

2. I wish I didn't work so hard.

This came from every male patient that I nursed. They missed their children's youth and their partner's companionship. Women also spoke of this regret. But as most were from an older generation, many of the female patients had not been breadwinners. All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence.

By simplifying your lifestyle and making conscious choices along the way, it is possible to not need the income that you think you do. And by creating more space in your life, you become happier and more open to new opportunities, ones more suited to your new lifestyle.

3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.

Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result.

We cannot control the reactions of others. However, although people may initially react when you change the way you are by speaking honestly, in the end it raises the relationship to a whole new and healthier level. Either that or it releases the unhealthy relationship from your life. Either way, you win.

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.

Often they would not truly realise the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up in their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved. Everyone misses their friends when they are dying.

It is common for anyone in a busy lifestyle to let friendships slip. But when you are faced with your approaching death, the physical details of life fall away. People do want to get their financial affairs in order if possible. But it is not money or status that holds the true importance for them. They want to get things in order more for the benefit of those they love. Usually though, they are too ill and weary to ever manage this task. It is all comes down to love and relationships in the end. That is all that remains in the final weeks, love and relationships.

5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.

This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called 'comfort' of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to their selves, that they were content. When deep within, they longed to laugh properly and have silliness in their life again.

When you are on your deathbed, what others think of you is a long way from your mind. How wonderful to be able to let go and smile again, long before you are dying.

Life is a choice. It is YOUR life. Choose consciously, choose wisely, choose honestly. Choose happiness.

What recession?
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's net worth skyrocketed 62% last year, to a jaw-dropping $35.2 million, according to financial disclosure forms released Wednesday.
Pelosi, the former House speaker, wasn't alone.
The California Democrat's gavel-gripping successor, Republican John Boehner, also saw his wealth get a boost, with the Ohio GOPer's net worth increasing from $1.8 million in 2009 to $2.1 million last year.
Pelosi's drastic growth, from an initial $21.7 million in 2009, is attributed to recent stock gains and smart investments. Her husband reported raking in $1 million to $5 million last year from a sale of Apple stocks.

20 Ways to Occupy the Holidays

Here's a great way to put the Spirit back into the Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Solstice Season this year, whether you're religious or otherwise.
  • Buy American.  Help an American keep her or his job by buying what he or she earns a living producing.
  • Buy local. Begin taking Main Street back from Wall $treet.
  • Spend less.  Make it.  Bake it.  Repair it.  Repaint it.
With Thanksgiving coming up, it's a perfect time to tell family members who gather to celebrate Turkey Day what you expect from them this Christmas time, and what you do not prefer this year.
Here's a list to help jump start your imagination:

1)   Tell them this Holiday Season that in your home the things they make themselves will be more highly prized than anything they can purchase.

2)   If you think you're not handy, or cannot make it, cook it or restore and recycle it, then buy things which other Americans made, from local shops which are American owned and operated.

3)  For instance: buy your gifts from local artists, farmers markets, bakers, craftspeople and candy makers! Try gift certificates from barbers, hair dressers, restaurants, car detailers, gyms or local theater tickets.  Once you put your mind to it, the list that bubbles forth is endless!

4)  Let everyone know, politely but firmly in no uncertain terms, that mass-produced stuff from Wangladesh or Hembucktu is not acceptable this year.

5)  This Holiday Season Share the Wealth (what little there is of it) with those closest to home, by NOT supporting corporations who ship American jobs overseas to increase profits for the 1%.  If neither Scrooge Congress nor the President can create jobs in America, show them how you can pitch in to do your part.

6)  It's time we the 99% began taking care of ourselves, and the best way is to cut out the middle-men, the top-dogs, the fat-cats, and the foreign producers who run out-of-sight sweatshops using child labor.

7)  Spend where your money stays in America, circulates in America, and creates jobs in America.

8)  That goes down even to things like Christmas wrappings made wherever overseas.  Start saving your Sunday comic sections to use for colorful wrapping paper at Christmas, made in America, and recycled in America.

9)  Stop shopping WallyWorld and other BIG BOX franchise importers who have for decades forced American companies to open plants outside the US, exporting jobs for more profit to the 1%.  After they choke on the mass of imported stuff they ordered back last Summer, you can pick up things at pennies on the dollar after the New Year to put aside for later gift giving, like birthdays.  If they can manipulate markets, so can we: don't buy it.

10)  Boycott anything made or sold by right-wingnut tea party financiers like the billionaire KOCH Brothers and Art Pope (Roses, Maxway, Value Mart, Super 10 and Super Dollar (though not Dollar General), among others owned by Variety Wholesalers Inc.)  Here's a good reference: http://www.hightowerlowdown.org/node/2603#list

Boycott War Profiteers when you can: http://zerowar.org/usaboycottlist.htm

11)  Get to know your extended neighborhood: the folks right here at home who spend their lives making beautiful things:  potters, weavers, musicians, glass blowers, book writers, organic farmers, fishermen, bakers, florists, woodworkers, orchardists, cheese makers, ballon twisters, and on and on -- but only buy stuff made in America.

12)  Buying USED things sends NO profit back to the manufacturer, no matter where.  Buying used Chinese goods from a thrift shop, yard sale or a friend, sends nothing back to communist China, and supports folks right here in the USA.

13)  During the other Great Depression, which my parents and your grandparents lived through, they survived by doing exactly this, and more.  When 'new' was not available, or not affordable, they repaired, fixed up, re-painted and made useable things out of discards.

14)  Re-gifting is IN.  Closets and attics full of stuff that someone gave you that you never use is great to Re-gift.  (It would be good if you can remember who gave it to you, so as not to re-gift the gifter!)

15)  And heirloom gifting is IN. This is a great year to pass on things memorable and meaningful to the next generation.  And take time to write a story so your piece of history is preserved.

16)  While you're cleaning out storage areas to rediscover what's hiding there, make a pile of stuff you cannot re-gift or make into something else, and pass it on to local Thrift Shops who help your neighbors in need. Set a goal: reduce stuff in storage by a third.

17)  At the time of first publishing this on 11/11/11, there are 6 weeks until Winter Solstice Holiday Season, plenty of time to plan, discover, make, dream, explore, enjoy, and turn this Holiday into the best one you and your family may ever have together.

18)  Use the internet to help you discover things you can make on your own. Try this:

19)  Surprise your family by how inventive and creative you can be!  Six weeks is plenty of time to do things you always keep putting off, til SomedayIsle, or when IgetaRoundTuit.

20)  You can do this for whatever reason you choose.  Maybe buying American makes you feel patriotic.  Maybe making things for others is a joy.  Maybe doing your part to drain a little profit from the TransNational Corporations of Wall $treet helps you to feel like a more loyal American.  Whatever motivates you, that's a Reason for the Season!

Lovely are the words your paintings sing,
As if by magic, vivid flowers seem to grow

Soon, God’s Hands shall touch our hearts again,
The long forgotten buried and the walking dead
Made afresh…what was once arcane
The Will and Love of God shall again embed

Countless souls shall embark on upward flight,
None shall rest until they reach Eternal Light

SHE NEVER QUITE WENT ALL THE WAY

Up in Portland lived a girl named Nadine
One of the prettiest women I’d ever seen

She always seemed detached, even blasé;

Though she had a beautiful body
And knew how to use it

She never quite went all the way

LIFE and DEATH

You would know the secret of death;
But how shall you find it unless you seek it in life?
The owl whose night eyes are blind to daylight,
Cannot unveil the mystery of light.

If you yearn to see the spirit of death,
Open your heart wide to the wonder of life.
For life and death are one, even as a river and sea are one.

In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent,
Knowledge of the great beyond;
And like seeds dreaming ‘neath the snow,
Your heart dreams of spring.

Trust your dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.

Your fear of death is but the trembling subject,
Waiting to be honored by his king.
Is the subject not joyful beneath his trembling?
That he shall wear the mark of the king?
Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?

For what is it to die but to stand naked,
In the wind and melt into the sun?
And what is it to cease breathing,
But to free the breath from restless tides,
That it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you sing?
And when you have reached the mountain top,
Then you shall begin to climb!
And when the earth shall claim your limbs,
Then shall you truly dance.

FRIENDSHIPS BEGIN…

Friendships begin where the road ends
Though the ruts may be muddy n’ deep
Count not the number of your friends,
And cherish the precious ones you keep

PRAYER

Beloved you only pray in times of stress or need.
Forget not to pray for the joy and abundance you already have.

Prayer is but the expansion of your self into the Cosmos.
If it is for your comfort to pour darkness into space,
It should also be your delight to pour out the dawning of your soul.

If you cannot but weep when your soul summons you to prayer,
Trust that after weeping you shall find laughter.

When you pray you rise to meet in the air others who pray.
And you recognize each other in sweet communion.

Know that when you enter prayer with no other purpose than asking,
For the sake of asking you shall not receive.

Be invisible and pray not before men.

Beloved I cannot teach you how to pray with words as,
You have but to allow God to speak through your lips.

If you but listen to the stillness of the night you shall hear;

“Father your will is our will”

We need not ask for anything, because you know our needs before us.
Father you are our only need, for in giving of yourself you gives us everything.

DEADLY CHEMICAL FALLOUT

If your neck isn’t broken...look up!
What you see may blow your mind
World governments lie to cover-up
Hoping we remain deaf, mute n’ blind

GOOD and EVIL

I shall speak of the good but not the evil within you.
For what is evil but good tortured by hunger and thirst?
In truth when good is hungry it seeks food in dark places,
And when thirsty truth drinks from dead water.

Goodness comes when you are one with yourself.
Yet when you are not at one with yourself you are not evil.
A house divided is not a den of thieves; it’s only a divided house.

You are good when you strive to give the best of yourself;
Yet you are not evil when you seek personal gain.
When you strive for gain you are like a root,
Seeking growth whilst clinging to the Earth.

You are good when you are fully awake in your speech.
Yet you are not evil when you sleep and babble without purpose.

You are good when you walk to your goal firmly with bold steps;
Yet you are not evil when you go forth limping,
For even while staggering and limping you move forward.

You are good in countless ways, yet are not evil when you are not good;
You are only lazy and loitering.

In your longing for “My Higher Self” lies your goodness.
This inherent and “God Given” longing is in everyone.

TIME

Why do you measure time when time is measureless?
Why do you adjust your conduct and direct,
The course of your spirit according to hours and seasons?

You’ve made time a stream upon whose bank you sit and watch flowing.

The timeless in you is aware of life’s timelessness,
And knows that yesterday is but today’s memory and
Tomorrow is but today’s dream.

That which sings and contemplates in you still,
Dwells within the bounds of the first moment which
Scattered the stars into space.

If you must measure time into seasons, let each
Season encircle all the other seasons.

Indeed, let today embrace the past with remembrance,
And the future with sweet longing.

WHY “OCCUPY” IS NECESSARY

We’re victims of “Problem, reaction, solution”
Perpetrated by minions of a few evil oligarchs;
Who control finance, resources and the media
“Real change” is now why “Occupy” embarks

SILENCE AND TALKING

You talk when you cease to be at peace with your thoughts
You cannot stand the solitude of your heart, so you speak out
Indeed, you talk from fear of being alone,
Sound becomes a diversion and a pass-time

The silence of aloneness reveals your naked self, so you seek escape
You talk without knowledge revealing truth you do not understand

When you meet a friend let spirit guide your lips and direct speech
Let the voice within your voice speak to the ear of his ear;
His soul will know the truth from your heart
Like the taste of wine remembered,
When the color is forgotten and the vessel is no more

PLASTIC JESUS

Some may laugh, some may tease us
For placing trust in a plastic Jesus
They think he’s just a cheap accessory

Comes in colors, pink n’ pleasant
Glows in the dark…he’s iridescent
Take him when we travel cross-country

We don't care if it rains or freezes
As long as we’ve got our plastic Jesus
Sitting on the dashboard of our RV

Get yourself a sweet Madonna
Dressed in rhinestones, sitting on a
Pedestal made from an oyster shell

Going ninety, ain't so scary
B’cuz we got the Virgin Mary
Assuring us we won't go to Hell

Go ahead n’ laugh n’ tease us
For having faith in a plastic Jesus
Who sits upon our dashboard looking swell

LIKE INTREPID SWALLOWS

They live in and around the city of Portland
Known for its pretty roses n’ tall firs of green
Nestled near Mount Hood’s vast vacationland
A city in expansion n’ growth unforeseen

Every fall a small band of friends gather
At a nearby place in a Valley known as “Tygh”
What route they take to get there doesn’t matter
It’s the fairgrounds of Wasco they seek occupy

Arriving in motor homes of every size n’ shape
Provisioned well with fine food, beer n’ wine
With RVs “Size does matter”
As one or two whip-out their measuring tape
Then share tall-tales of their travels, if so inclined

Everyone’s asked to dress their “Rig” for Halloween
Skeletons, cobwebs, pumpkins, monsters and the like
At midnight a witch riding a broom overhead is seen
Frankenstein often zooms by astride his motorbike

“Like Intrepid Swallows”

In mobile nests they do appear
Back in Tygh Valley year after year
Alas, after a few short days of mirth n’ fun
They break camp n’ fly home…one by one
